The Foodservice Packaging Institute Celebrates 75 Years
Falls Church, VA - 2008 marks the 75th anniversary of the Foodservice Packaging Institute (FPI), the leading authority on single-use foodservice packaging.
In celebration, FPI has rebranded the association, debuting a new logo and industry trademark (attached). These items were incorporated into the association's new Web site, www.fpi.org, which was launched earlier this month.
One of the highlights of the new site is the "Foodservice Packaging Library," which contains hundreds of reports, studies, publications and links from a wide variety of sources, both inside and outside the association. The materials are organized into the following "books:"
- Compliance Manual
- Doilies Make the Difference
- Economics
- Environment
- Market Research
- Materials
- Miscellaneous
- Public Affairs Testimonies
- Sanitation
- Teacher's Kit
- Voluntary Technical Standards
"Since 1933, we have been the voice of the single-use foodservice packaging industry and THE source for intelligence on these products. With the on-line Foodservice Packaging Library, we're able to share our resources with the public," said FPI President John R. Burke.
Members and guests will gather to honor the association's 75-year history at its Spring Meeting, to be held April 16-18 at The Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn & Spa, in Sonoma, Calif. The meeting will also celebrate the 100th anniversary of the first single-use foodservice packaging items, the paper cup, which would later be known as the Dixie cup (manufactured today by Georgia-Pacific Food Services Solutions).
"Our industry has evolved over the years, introducing new materials and products to support the foodservice industry. Used in over 90 percent of foodservice operations today, they have become ubiquitous. But we can't lose sight of their greatest contribution: the protection of sanitation and public health," noted President Burke. "That's something we can all be proud of."
