U.S. Foodservice Announces Launch Of Monogram Sustain - New Eco-conscious Supplies For Restaurants

Rosemont, IL - U.S. Foodservice proudly announces the introduction of Monogram Sustain, a new line of eco-conscious plates, cups, and take-out containers. The Monogram Sustain line includes 19 products from hot and cold cups to plates and hinged containers - all made with renewable resources.

The initial line of products will utilize a unique material made from corn, called Polylactic Acid (PLA), and fiber from sugarcane, called bagasse. These resources are renewable year after year. Therefore, they are a more sustainable option for foodservice operators than traditional Styrofoam or petroleum based plastics. Bagasse products also prevent pollution from the normal burning of sugarcane fiber after the juice is extracted. All Monogram Sustain products are biodegradable and can be composted by restaurants that have established composting programs.

With the extensive reach of U.S. Foodservice, Monogram Sustain will potentially accelerate the shift towards the use of renewable resources in the foodservice industry. According to Pat Mulhern, President of U.S. Foodservice's exclusive brands organization - Monarch Food Group, "Together with other water, waste and energy conserving strategies, Monogram Sustain can be an important component to our operators' commitments to greener operations."

Monogram Sustain is part of a comprehensive sustainability initiative at U.S. Foodservice that focuses on operations, products, and the communities they serve. U.S. Foodservice plans to expand the Monogram Sustain product line in the near future.
